Preparing for Your Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) Appointment
At your initial appointment, our goal is to ensure BHRT is both safe and effective for you. Before prescribing hormones, we gather important health information through screenings and lab work. This helps us create a personalized treatment plan while minimizing risks.
Note: While we don't take insurance, you can receive an EOB and submit it to your insurance.
Preferred Screening Before Starting BHRT
To ensure safety and reduce potential risks, we recommend the following women’s health screenings are up to date:
-
Breast cancer screening:
▸ Mammogram OR
▸ Thermography and/or breast ultrasound
-
Cervical cancer screening:
▸ Pap smear with HPV testing (within the last 5 years, or sooner if symptoms or history warrant)
Why This Matters:
While BHRT can significantly improve quality of life, it's important to understand that hormones may stimulate the growth of certain hormone-sensitive cancers (e.g., breast, endometrial, ovarian).
If you have a history of such cancers, you must be in remission for at least 3–5 years, and we’ll carefully review your history before proceeding. There is no guarantee cancer won’t recur with or without hormone therapy.
